When the weather starts to get cold and you want to continue riding your bicycle, you need to think about how you are going to stay warm. And I keep my hands warm with “Pearl Izumi Lobster Gloves”. One of my friends recommend them to me because he had a pair for many years and really liked them.
What makes these gloves different is they keep two of you fingers together so they can keep them warmer than gloves. But they allow a little more dexterity because they are not mittens (they are split in the middle).
These “gloves” have done an excellent job keeping my hands warm. But you must keep in mind that I don’t go out bicycling if the temperature is below 5 degrees F. That includes the wind chill. So I have not used the gloves in extreme cold situations. But they have done a great job keeping my hands warm from 5 degrees F to 35 degrees F.
Some of the feature that I like about these gloves are: They are water proof, I have been caught in snow and freezing rain but the glove always stayed warm and dry. They have reflective piping which is a great safety feature for riding your bicycle during the winter. The sun goes down early during the winter and I find myself riding at night more often than not.
Now there is one thing that I don’t like about these glove but it is pretty minor. The gloves don’t work the greatest with Rapid Fire shifters. It just feels uncomfortable because you would normally use one finger to down shift but you finger are held together. You can still shift it just feels really weird. But I don’t ride my newer mountain bike during the winter, I ride my Specialized Hardtail XC Disc that uses a twist type of shifter and the gloves work just fine with this type of shifter.
I would definitely recommend these gloves to anyone who needs gloves for winter riding. Plus these gloves are not bicycle specific. They would work great for Skiing, Snow boarding or even just for every day gloves on those extremely cold days.
