What do you need to consider when you purchase a new mountain bike? There are loads of choices if you just want to pick a bike, equipment & accessories too so in order to make the very best decision you need to learn a bit more about mountain bikes before making that all important decision. This article will go over some of the hints and tips that will help you make your decision much easier.

Firstly you must realize that you have to set a realistic budget for your mountain bike as these can cost in some cases many thousands of dollars, depending what level you are at and where you intend to go biking really dictates your budget as a novice would hardly pay out $2000 on a good mountain bike only to ride to work on it. You will always get better service from a bike dealer than the local supermarket offering cut price bikes and you will inevitably be much happier with your purchase overall.

So then you have to decide what riding terrain and style you will be using. Mountain cruising, cross-country, downhill, there are a lot of choices to make but once made then you can choose the type of bike you want for that particular terrain and style. The bike shop salesperson will be able to help you decide much more easily if you have an idea of this beforehand. And you won’t be disappointed as if you had bought it from a supermarket.

Do you want hard tail or full suspension?

To most this is a foreign language but really it just refers to the suspension. If you can afford to always get full suspension, front and rear. The hard tail bike will be lighter and a little more responsive but the full suspension bike will be far more comfortable to ride. Again this will be determined by your budget, terrain that you wish to ride and your riding style too.

Do not buy loads of junk to accessorize your mountain bike. Only buy what you need for the job. Not only does it save you money but also the bike is not cluttered with useless items and is much lighter without them.

Always look out for the sales when they come around, usually in the autumn/winter months when the weather gets colder. You can save a lot of money if you can wait for the sales and also some bike dealers offer savings on accessories too when bought at the same time as the bike which you will not get from a supermarket chain.

You are better off finding a reliable, trustworthy dealer every time over the supermarket chains. They just want the sale whereas the dealer wants your repeat custom and so will offer a far better service to you in order to get you to come back again.

Always take the bike for a test drive if it is possible, as often you will just know when a bike is right for you, it just feels great and the more bikes you test the easier the buying decision will be.

Finally in order to pick a bike you need do your research. Look for reviews on bikes and makes of mountain bikes and read if anyone has had problems with a particular make or design. It will also let you find some great dealers too from product reviews and in the end you will always get the mountain bike you need over the one that you want, making a far more pleasurable riding experience.
