The over sized drivers have become very popular on the golf course nowadays. The ever popular 460cc sized head driver is quickly replacing the smaller standard sized driver off the tee for beginning and expert golfers alike.

If you an avid golfer and haven’t already switched to the 460cc head, listed below are a few things you should know about the 460cc driver and how it sizes up against its smaller competitor.

I know you have heard the saying “size matters”, well in this case is does, at least off the tee. The fact of the matter is that the larger head can improve your game when understanding the differences from the standard smaller golf driver. 460cc drivers have have what is called a very large sweet spot. This is the surface in which the golf ball is struck by the club. If you have a larger sweet spot its pretty obvious you have a better chance of staking the ball better and more consistently.

Most 460cc drivers come standard with a longer shaft and improved (MOI) moment of inertia, which greatly improves your chances of hitting longer, higher, straighter drives of the tee. You should tee the ball a little higher when using a 460cc driver, its suggested to tee the ball up 2 to 3 inches off the ground. This may take a longer tee than your used to. Also, you should have the golf ball positioned more towards your front foot. Both of these suggestions will allow you to strike the ball on an upward plain which allows you to hit the ball higher with less backspin. All this creates a long penetrating drive.

The shaft you select for your 460cc driver is very important. Golfers with slower swing speeds need to use a shaft that is what I like to call whippy. This generates a little extra snap at the point of impact. If your a golfer with a high swing speed the whippy shaft will be very inconsistent for you. These players with higher swing speeds need a stiffer shaft.

When switching for the standard sized golf driver to the 460cc driver you will find yourself gaining at least 10 yards off the tee. What this means is your second shot to the green will require one less club than if you were to teeing off with a standard driver. For amateur golfers this is a definite stroke saver.
