When you take a ski vacation with your kids, do you feel like time flies by? And too much time is wasted when you should be on the slopes? Here are 5 helpful ways to maximize your quality-time and have more time for skiing.

  1. Enroll your children in ski school.
This is a must. The only time you can possibly skip this is when all your kids are teenagers and their friends are along for the trip.
Otherwise, ski school gives your kids buddies. They befriend other kids from around the world and their instructors.Children’s instructors are always wonderful and almost-all children love their time spent in lessons. They improve, and they learn safety precautions, and maybe even some tricks to teach you!At the end of the day, your kids will love skiing even more than you do. They will become true skiers, like you.
  2. Get ready for your kids to crash and burn throughout the trip.
Changing altitudes and time zones, putting on tons of gear, and then actually skiing itself, are all overwhelmingly exhausting to little ones!Don’t get frazzled when this happens because…it definitely will happen!
Your kids will most likely have their meltdown at the end of the first or second day skiing.
You might need to change plans: sorry, but you might need to postpone the sleigh ride for another night. Just be prepared, and be flexible.
  3. Get a babysitter.
Most hotels at ski resorts have a list of reliable babysitters and nannies whose services you can use. Go out on a date with your hubby or wife. Or get a massage at a nearby spa. Spend an evening out on the town.Get away from your crazy critters for a little while. Everyone will appreciate each other after a few hours of breathing-time and space.
  4.  Find non-skiing activities nearby. Spend a day off the slopes.
If you are visiting for more than three days, include a non-ski day. Besides, if your whole group skis hard for more than three straight days, the soreness and fatigue will make you all really cranky and fussy. Some other fun activities include snowshoe hiking, making snow forts, building a snow-man, and taking sleigh rides. Or play like a tourist: visit a local historic place, bakery, or scenic attraction. Take lots of pictures.
  5. Scope out the local recreation center.
Some have swimming pools with slides, wave pools, and water games. Others might be hosting mother-daughter day on the climbing wall. Or maybe leave the kids in daycare and try a fast-paced spinning class with your spouse. Why not try something new, or just goof off?

Ski vacations are a blast. But as a parent with kids, you will feel challenged at times. Use these 5 helpful tips so that you can plan to have even more fun as a family on your next ski travels!
